With so many local heroes swaggering down our streets, it would be a pity to not celebrate them, right? And what better way to do it than through dance! No, we don’t mean your late night interpretive dances down the Surfers Paradise strip – real dancing. The type that requires toe tapping skills and the ability to spin around without falling over.
Showcasing an array of gutsy local business owners and interesting folk from the Tweed Shire, for the second year running, Tweed Shire’s Celebrity Dance For Cancer is raising much needed funds for cancer research, while adding a bit of cheek to the process.
Paired with talented local dancers, five couples will be battling it out to win the people’s vote and support the Cancer Council during the night’s festivities. Hip hop, swing dancing, jazz and contemporary are some styles you’ll be watching at the gala’s extravaganza, even a dance through the ages medley!
“You can expect lots of laughs,” says Shelley Bracefield, City Finance owner and resident celeb. “My family, like so many others has been touched by cancer. It’s such a tremendously horrible thing to see your loved ones go through. As soon as I heard about the cause, I jumped at the chance to raise money and awareness – now let’s see if my dance practice pays off!” With each local celebrity learning a new dance style from scratch, we’re pretty excited to see the end result. And how often do we get a full-blown performance in Tweed?
$2 Raffle tickets are on sale for your chance to win a bunch of fab prizes, including 3 paintball tickets, with all proceeds going directly to Cancer Council. $50 will get you exclusive access to the event, canapés and a drink on arrival. And if you can’t make it on the night, don’t fret – each couple has a GoFundMe page for any donations you are able to provide and can also be sponsored here. Get amongst it y’all; this one’s going to be a hoot!
